130 year old cottage in Nuwara Eliya burns down

A fire burnt down the renowned 130 year old ‘Keena Cottage’ in Nuwara Eliya today with most of the antiques and the library completely destroyed.

According to Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council’s fire brigade the fire spread the cottage at a rapid pace as most rooms were built by wood. 

The cottage has been the official residence of the government agent during 1800’s. 

Nuwara Eliya police is presently conducting investigation.
