The government strongly objects the move made by UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon to appoint a team of experts to advise him on the rights issues in Sri Lanka.

Cabinet Spokesman Prof. G.L. Peiris said that the UN instead of appointing such committees to probe into Sri Lanka should concentrate on countries such as Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq where human rights have been violated in a serious manner.

He said that during the Presidential elections similar pressures from the international community arose and this is one such move during the Parliamentary elections period as a result of political influence by interested parties from the international community.
